Lunch at historic Tortilla Flat and Dolly Steamboat Cruise on Canyon Lake

  • This is for members who wish to drive themselves
  • This is for members who want to take the van at $20/person. There is a 15 passenger limit. If the limit is reached you will be offered a chance to be put on a wait list.

April in the Sonoran Desert normally has beautiful weather with a good wildflower display (weather approving). Come with us on a trip along a portion of the Apache Trail to historic Tortilla Flat. Enjoy a lunch at one of the dining establishments, and at 2 PM, board the Dolly Steamboat for about a 1.5 hour cruise of Canyon Lake. On the cruise we may see desert big horn sheep, deer, or even a javelina. At this time of year shrubs like brittlebush should be in flower as well as the official tree of Arizona the foothill paloverde.


Event Costs

The travel committee in an effort to keep the event cost low has developed the following pay as you go approach.

  • Lunch - you will purchase your own lunch or perhaps brown bag it. The cost of one lunch should easily be less than $15.
  • Cruise - you will purchase your own ticket at the lake; the cost is $23, 21 and 15 for adults, seniors and children, respectively (we might get a group discount).
  • Transportation Options
    • Drive yourself - there is no parking cost at the Dolly parking lot
    • Ride in a 15 passenger van at a cost of $20/person. The van will collect and return people at the Tempe Public Library in the south parking lot, departing about 9:00 AM and returning at approximately 5:30 PM.
